Two Days Until Underworld

Posted by Ryan J. Davis on July 7th, 2010

You’re probably as excited as I am about Friday’s UNDERWORLD, a DTP fundraiser featuring actual fire-breathing and sky high aerial work. If that’s not enough for you, add great music and drink specials.

You can get your tickets now for just $15, saving a few bucks from buying at the door. Aerial.jpg

https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/117805

This is also your first chance to see Adam (DTP’s Founding Director) flying himself. He’s been spending hours rehearsing for this (as you can see from the picture) and you don’t want to miss it.

All money raised from your tax-deductible ticket purchase goes toward our first New York premiere of “The Orpheus Variations”, coming late August.

Thanks for your continued support and look forward to seeing you on Friday,

Veritas

Coming to the 2010 New York International Fringe Festival

The Deconstructive Theatre Project
is proud to be an associate producer of

directed by Ryan J. Davis
with original music by Rachel Peters

and dramaturgy by DTP Founding Director, Adam J. Thompson

In the spring of 1920, a Harvard undergraduate’s suicide unearthed a hidden homosexual subculture among the student population of the university. Grief-stricken and demanding justice, his family brought two incriminating letters to the attention of Harvard’s legendary president, Lawrence Lowell, who hastily assembled a team of deans to expurgate these “sexual deviants” before they infected other students on campus. Inspired by these events, VERITAS is the tragic story of the bright-futured boys whose lives fell prey to a family’s desire for revenge and an august institution’s reckless pursuit of the Truth.

A Message From Board Member, Ryan J. Davis

Posted by Adam J. Thompson on April 25th, 2010

Dear Friends,

As you probably know, The Deconstructive Theatre Project has grown a lot during the past two years that I’ve served on the Board of Directors. We’ve produced successful readings, workshops and fundraisers, always continually expanding our family. It’s been great meeting and working with many of you and I expect to see the rest of you at an event soon.

Can you help us quickly right now?

One of our main goals in 2010 is to grow the DTP online community and we need your help. Forward this message to your friends and ask them to join us. For every new email address we collect over the next week, I’m donating $1 to DTP. Just join our email list my using the box to the left and send this message along to your friends and you’ll help us raise money and increase awareness.

Need another reason to forward this? We’re holding auditions for our upcoming project The Orpheus Variations. Forward this to your actor friends and help them get an audition.

Remember, I’m only doing the $1 email pledge for one week, so please forward this along today.

Thanks for your support,

Ryan J. Davis

A contemporary deconstruction and adaptation of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth.  This development production will integrate live performance, aerial silk choreography, interactive video/projection, and live music performance in an intensely visual atmosphere.

Fully staged workshop performances at the Theatre for the New City, first week of September 2010.  Additional development planned to follow.

Seeking

Note: Actors will contribute to the shaping of characters and narrative and should be comfortable with both contemporary and poetic language and open to dramaturgical and physical collaboration, including scripting and staging opportunities.  Some roles require specific musical or movement skills.  See below.

Eurydice: Female, late 20s to early 30s.  Striking, full of questions and a bit sad.  She is the lover and muse to Orpheus and new friend of Persephone, overseer of the dead.  Following her suicide, Eurydice is trapped in a single moment in time, perpetually confronting variations in her own timeless myth.  This actor must be able to project a striking sense of unease.  Requires above average to expert skills in aerial performance, or in dance but comfortable with learning aerial silk performance.

Orpheus: Male, late 20s to early 30s.  The greatest musician in recorded history – larger than his own myth, now catatonic following the death of Eurydice.  Dark, bold.  A very strong physical actor needed to convey emotion and presence through elements other than text.  Requires proficiency in musical instruments, preferably (but not limited to) violin and/or piano and strong indie-rock vocals; as well as some aerial performance skill or comfort learning.

Persephone: Female, any age.  A modern goddess – a couture fashion queen in enormous dresses, and overseer of the Underworld.  Persephone was kidnapped from the world above by the god Hades.  She is a bit lonely, sometimes cunning, sometimes wistful.  A unique relationship blooms between she and Eurydice.  Ideally has some experience with stilts or the ability to learn very basic stilts technique.

Notes/What to Bring

Please prepare short contemporary monologue and short monologue from the classical Greek tragedy canon.  Orpheus should prepare 16 bars of indie rock song to sing a capella.

Aerial and movement callbacks will be held on May 9th, during daytime hours.

To arrange an appointment, please email headshot and resume to casting@deconstructivetheatreproject.org.  Please include links to aerial or musical performance in your email if applicable.
